Frontal Lobe Details - LIMP

Prefrontal Area - most frontal region

Responsible for highest intellectual functioning such as:

  • Judgment
  • Reasoning
  • Conceptual Planning
  • Abstract Thinking

Function:

  • Executive functioning and personality

Damage effect:

  • L:  depression, apathy, speech, apathy
  • R:  impulsivity, confabulation, verbosity
  • Medial: difficulty speaking, motor abnormalities
  • Orbital: emotional unresponsiveness, dysinhibition

Psychopathology:

  • Frontal lobe syndrome
  • Schizophrenia
  • Depression
  • Anxiety

An easy way to remember the functions of the frontal lobe (LIMP):

  • L: language
  • I: intellect
  • M: motor function
  • P: personality
