General Functions
The endocrine system is composed of various glands located throughout the body. These glands synthesize and release special chemical messengers called hormones. Five general functions are:

| suggestion 3 | Coordination of the male and female reproductive systems, which makes sexual reproduction possible | |

| suggestion 5 | Initiation of corrective and adaptive responses when emergency demands occur |
