Internship Requirements

You must log 240 hours in an approved internship during a term in which you are simultaneously enrolled in PSYC 591.

The internship placement must extend your professional skill set beyond your current job.

Your placement must be approved by the program director in advance, by submitting:

  • Your current resume
  • Description of the organization or company where you will be interning
  • The name of your onsite supervisor
  • A list of job duties and any anticipated projects

Once your placement has been approved, you can then register in PSYC 591.

Upon successful completion of PSYC 591, you will receive 4 units of credit.

PSYC 591 Internship in Applied Psychology

PSYC 591 is a course that will accompany your internship.

In this course, you will meet virtually with a professor as well as your peers to discuss your internship experiences and how you are applying the psychological theories you are learning within your internship role.

This course will include:

  • Readings
  • Weekly discussions
  • Live sessions
  • Assignments that complement your internship experience
  • Presentations where you can share your experiences with your peers

Legal Guidelines for Internships

Some internships will be unpaid positions. It is important for you to understand the federal guidelines for unpaid internships so you understand your rights while you are employed in an internship context.
