Final Project Outline

When submitting your Final Project parts, work and add on from the previous document you submitted.

Part 1: Choosing a Topic

Due: Week 3, Day 7

Value: 50 Points

Your final project for the course is to prepare a training module for adults working with children and young people. You’ll need to prepare a presentation in PowerPoint format, with supporting Word documents as detailed below in Part 5.

Through your presentation you will be training adults to understand and work to prevent and intervene with children and young people at risk of developing one of these sets of behaviors:

You may need to read ahead in your text to learn more about the topics in order to make a decision.

Your work on the project begins this week with selection of your topic.

Please submit a paragraph advising which one of the five areas of risky behavior (above) you will be addressing in your training module. Your paragraph can consist of one sentence; if you have further elaboration as to your topic do feel free to add it.

After you have submitted your topic in a word document, save your word document to work from in Parts 2, 3, and 4.

Part 2: Data Describing the Problem

Due: Week 4, Day 7

Value: 50 Points

This week please submit the second part of your final project, described below. You may submit it in outline or paragraph form as long as it is clear to the reader.

This week’s work on your project is building a set of data in outline form that describes the problem. Use credible and up-to-date sources. Take a look at www.childtrends.org, which has a wealth of information. Include in your outline:

Part 3: Investigation of Best Practices

Due: Week 5, Day 7

Value: 50 Points

This week your work is to investigate and document best practices in preventing and intervening with the problem behavior. Include in your outline:

Use your word document from Part 1 & 2 to add and complete Part 3.

Part 4: The Plan

Due: Week 6, Day 7

Value: 50 Points

This week you’ll prepare the next segment of your final project: A plan for youth at risk for the problem you have identified in your school. Your plan should be responsive on at least four levels:

  1. Education for adults.
  2. Prevention activities for adults to implement, including the school counselor.
  3. An intervention plan for individual students.
  4. Suggestions for evaluating or assessing the plan.

Assume that your principal and school district are providing you with strong support and funding for whatever you need for implementation.

Use your Word document from Part 1, 2 & 3 to add and complete Part 4.

Use APA formatting.

Part 5: Final Submission

Due: Week 7, Day 7

Value: 150 Points

This week submit your PowerPoint presentation designed to train adults in your school. Consolidate and integrate your work from Parts 1 – 4 to form your presentation. Please also submit with your PowerPoint these resources in Word document format:

  1. A fact sheet or FAQ about the topic.
  2. A list of resources.
  3. A set of helpful hints for adults working with children or young people regarding the topic.

Your work should include content from the text as well as from other credible (peer-reviewed, federal agency, and/or state agency reports and initiatives) sources.
